I bought a new fridge this week (and almost didn’t)
Amy Greene Financial Coaching
This past weekend, I was deep-cleaning my 29-year-old fridge for the first time since moving in. (Yes, I know. Don’t judge me.)
It mostly works.
Until I hit the bottom drawers and found what looked like a murder scene: sticky, red, splattered everywhere.
I texted a photo to my mom and thirty minutes later, she showed up with a bucket and bleach (she’s OCD…can’t resist!)
Together we uncovered cracked shelves, a drawer that wouldn’t fit back in, and another leak on the floor a few days later.
That’s when I heard it.
The same voice I coach my clients through every week:
“It still works. We can live with this.”
“I don’t want to spend $2,500 right now.”
“If I spend this here, I won’t have it for something more important.”
Even after eight years of money work and a seven-figure net worth… scarcity still whispers.
Old patterns die hard.
There’s a part of me that likes the sacrifice, the pride in being frugal, the “look how disciplined I am” energy.
But that broken drawer isn’t a badge of honor.
It’s scarcity in disguise.
When your environment says, “I make do with broken things,” your life keeps handing you more of them.
And that’s exactly what I see with the entrepreneurs I coach.
Not just broken fridges; financial systems held together with duct tape and hope.
Paying everyone except yourself.
Keeping $40K in checking because it “feels safe.”
Using personal savings to patch business gaps.
Making it work, but at the cost of calm and clarity.
Here’s what I help entrepreneurs understand:
It’s not just okay to spend money when you have it and it serves a purpose.
It’s strategic.
More money is coming.
It always does when you’re operating from clarity instead of fear.
And you get to feel good spending on things that matter.
The goal isn’t to hoard every dollar, and it’s not to spend every dollar.
The goal is to build systems that:
* Pay you first, automatically, not when there’s money “left over.”
* Build reserves while you sleep.
* Let you spend on quality without the guilt spiral.
* Create trust that more is always coming (because it is).
When you trust money to flow (and you clear out what’s broken) it does.
When you grip it tightly out of fear, it stops moving.
I bought the fridge, and as the delivery truck pulled away, I felt it: relief, spaciousness, and the quiet sense that everything finally works.
Now I’ll ask you this: What’s your “broken fridge?”
The thing you’re “making work” but secretly know is draining your energy? Reply to this email and let me know.
And if you’re an entrepreneur who’s done making do with broken financial systems, let’s fix it.
