This weekend taught me why so many entrepreneurs repel money without realizing it.

Sometimes it can be hard to receive, right?
I still remember my wedding shower.
Everyone sitting in a big circle, watching as I opened every gift.
The oohs and ahhs over the bedsheets and butter dish.
It was downright uncomfortable.
That was over fifteen years ago, and I’m much better at receiving now.
But it’s still a practice.
Fast-forward to this past weekend: birthday shopping with my mom (she insisted).
She paid for everything.
And yes, part of me wanted to protest — to say, “That’s too much.”
But I let her.
Because she wanted to give, and I needed to practice receiving.
Turns out, receiving is an act of trust.
And it hit me at lunch that day, as I ate my nachos and sipped my margarita:
As entrepreneurs, our ability to make money is tied to our ability to receive money.
If we’re uncomfortable with receiving in small ways, we’ll quietly block it in big ways, too, such as clients, cash flow, and opportunity.
Trust me, I get it.
Like me, you’ve been trained to earn, not to receive.

But here’s the thing: If you can’t fully receive:
the compliment,
the offer to help,
the check someone else wants to pick up,
…you’re signaling that you don’t trust the flow.
And that same resistance shows up in your business.
In your rates.
In the money you keep (or don’t).
In the stability you crave.
You’re not bad at money, you just haven’t practiced receiving it.
